Amsterdam based house and tech house DJ/producer Luuk van Dijk started producing electronic music in 2011. In 2013, he won the Kunstbende DJ-contest and that gave him a well deserved spot at Mysteryland 2014. He hosts his own clubnight PUUR in Hilversum. Besides that, Luuk performed in clubs like De Marktkantine, Studio 80, Basis and Factory 010 and at festivals like DGTL Festival, Straf_Werk, Amsterdam Open Air and A day at the Park. As Manchester based music platform XYST reports: “A cracking EP that hints at great promise, we can’t wait to hear more from Mr. Van Dijk over the next while.”
Although he’s very young, his own productions and dj-sets are filled with sounds that take you back to the old days but are contemporary at the same time. An old soul you might call it, Luuk van Dijk has only started to show the world what he stands for musically.
Luuk highlights some of his standout touring moments from the last 18 months exclusively for Decoded Magazine.
04-02-17 HYTE
Warehouse Elementenstraat, Amsterdam
This was one for the books. My first time playing HYTE at one of the most epic clubs in Amsterdam; Warehouse Elementenstraat. I was playing B2B with Wouter S. a dear friend of mine and we were closing that night from 05:00-07:00. After the dj’s before us, that played some quality techno, we decided to bring it back a little and played some more heavy groovy tech/house, the crowd received it well and we had them under our spell till the early morning.
30-12-17 Awakenings
Gashouder, Amsterdam
This was my 2nd time playing for Awakenings but the first time performing at the legendary Gashouder Amsterdam. It’s been a long time I was that nervous for a gig; fellow DJ colleagues told stories about the sound there and gave me tips on how to handle the acoustics. Every soft minimal’ish house track sounded like techno haha, it was an amazing experience and it was an honour playing there.
16-12-17 STRAF_WERK
Motion, Bristol
Making my debut in Bristol with the STRAF_WERK family was something else. I was playing from 23:00-00:30 and I was amazingly surprised the place was already packed, something we don’t see a lot in Holland. I prepared myself for a nice groovy set cause I didn’t expect this at all so I had changed vibes on the spot and it was absolutely smashing! It was the first time I really experienced what the British crowd is about, what a night!
22-08-17 STRAF_WERK Festival
Amsterdam
Talking about STRAF_WERK… One of the highlights of last summer, playing B2B with my friends from ANOTR. Surrounded by friends, fellow DJ’s and even my parents, there was an epic vibe! Can’t wait for the next STRAF_WERK Festival 18-08-17!
15-12-17 The Martinez Brothers
Annabel, Rotterdam
Dreams were coming true this night, as The Martinez Brothers being one of my favourite DJ’s and I played before them. The set was from 01:00-02:30 but I turned out playing till 03:30 with The Bro’s vibing hard behind me in the booth (see picture). Still puts the biggest smile on my face when I see this picture!
10-03-18 A’DAM+Eve
ADAM Tower, Amsterdam
I didn’t know what to expect when I got this booking, a vertical festival? I didn’t see much of it online or heard about it. But when I entered the amazing tower, it was sold out. They made a dancing maze/paradise from the ADAM Tower. Literally the whole building was shaking (no jokes), one of the most beautiful settings I’ve played, playing on the 20th floor with Amsterdam Central Station behind me.
18-05-18 Luuk van Dijk
WOMB, Tokyo
It was my first time ever coming to Japan and playing at the most legendary club of Tokyo. It was such an amazing experience, the club rocked and especially the team from WOMB rocked. After the show they travelled with me in Japan showing me their epic country. Can’t wait to be back!
27-04-18 Oranjekade
Tramkade, Den Bosch
After 2 shows at Loveland & Kroon Festival on Kingsday it was time for show 3 of 4 of that day. Former Queensday is still one of the biggest free outdoor events in the Netherlands but the all the houseparties are located more outside the centre to prevent the cities from piling up with people. I could play anything and people were jumping, you can’t see it but I had the biggest smile on my face!
