Ben UFO, Gerd Janson, Fatima Yamaha, Makam, Vakula, Hieroglyphic Being, Shanti Celeste, Ata Kak and more will perform at Atlas Electronic 2017 in Marrakech, Morocco this summer.

Last year something magical happened out in the pinky palm-studded oasis of Marrakech. For four sunny days and party-filled nights Africa and the West convened in a unique instant of art, music and cultural exchange. New discoveries were made and lasting friendships forged. This was the first edition of Atlas Electronic, a festival celebrating creativity and connectivity in an ever expanding, divided world.

On August 24—27, 2017 Atlas Electronic will return to its intimate home, the award-winning ecolodge Villa Janna, bringing with it another singular program of international and local musicians, DJs and live acts, art, food and tasters of traditional Moroccan culture. Take a dip in the pool to the sounds of dusty house music in the daytime; revel in rapturous West African Gnawa music; sip sweet tea or suck on delicious shisha while drinking in stunning panoramic views at sunset; romp around an amphitheatre to Arabic-infused techno till dawn. Atlas Electronic promises a truly one of a kind experience.

The first wave of acts announced for Atlas Electronic 2017 include: ’90s funky hip-house enigma Ata Kak from Ghana, whose music has been recently exhumed and reissued via Brian Shimkovitz’s Awesome Tapes From Africa label. Resident Advisor top 10 live act Fatima Yamaha will be giving one of his show-stopping performances. In a special collaboration with Moroccan musicians, Hieroglyphic Being will be teaming up with Moroccan musicians on the opening night. Meanwhile, eclectic DJs Ben UFO, Vakula, Gerd Janson and UK’s rising star Shanti Celeste will join a sterling Dutch contingent from the booth. There’s Dekmantel’s Makam, Red Bull Music Academy alumni Jameszoo, LA-based Palmbomen II, Red Light Radio host Afrobot and Steven Pieters, Khalil and Taylan Alan from Rotterdam’s Triphouse and Clone Records associate RAFF, plus many more.

In the spirit of connectivity and globe-trotting sounds, alchemic DJ and producer C.love from the US will be joining us alongside returning synth and ethno-music duo Nu Guinea and Habibi Funk, Berlin-based purveyor of all things funky and ‘70s from the Arabic world. Moroccan talent will feature heavily on the bill too. We’re welcoming Casablanca DJs Dex Le Maffo, Kosh, M.A.O.U. and Driss Bennis into the fold. Local wedding band Groupe Bana is joining in on the fun as well. Their Gnawa troupe leader — remembered as one of last year’s highlights — is ready to bring the party once more.

Atlas Electronic isn’t just a festival abroad. It’s a progressive experience, a 360-degree total immersion in a borderless, endless, constantly evolving milieu—a milieu everyone can be involved in creating. This summer come to Morocco to learn, teach, inspire and be inspired. Tickets are on sale now: the journey begins here!
