The legendary detroitian initiated his career back in 1987 with his weekly radio show at WJBL, under the alias “The Wizard”. Progressing forward, in 1988 he teamed up with Anthony Srock to become the industrial force “Final Cut”, to then swiftly move into founding the imprint “Underground Resistance” with several others – whose releases pragmatically defined and devised Detroit Techno as it’s known today.

With a deep-seated passion for sci-fi and classic movies, 2000 was the year that saw Mills release his first electronic interpretation of the soundtrack to Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis”. Following his impulse to respond to film, he progressed further to develop music for Buster Keaton’s “The Three Ages” (1923), “Woman in the Moon” by Fritz Lang, and – earlier the year – “A Trip to the Moon” by Georges Méliès.

Having produced solo for two years, Mills then uprooted to New York in order to found his own label, Axis Records – a respected monolith in the world of electronic music, whilst producing for the Berlin based label Tresor Records.

Jeff Mills signature sets involve rapid mastery of the decks, with spontaneous mixing interludes – tracks turbulently change from one to the next, the used records tossed to one side. Aside from his iconic mixing, The Wire featured Mills’ “X-103-Atlantis” in their “100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening)”.
